If we would just go to the Bible for our answers, we would not be so distant in “our” beliefs!
A staggering 66% of Americans believe that God accepts all forms of worship, regardless of religious affiliation; however there is a major exception within the evangelical Christians. According to LifeWay Research’s 2016 State of American Theology Study, less than 50% of evangelicals share the same belief.
According to the study, there are many things that evangelicals differ in their beliefs, to most Americans.
Seven out of 10 Americans believe that there is only one true God. God has 3 manifestations: Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
“Contradictory and incompatible beliefs are OK for most people,” Executive Director of Lifeway Research, Scott McConnell, stated.
Six in 10 Americans shared that, “heaven is a place where all people will ultimately be reunited with their loved ones.”
Fifty four percent of Americans believe that, “only those who trust in Jesus Christ alone as their Savior receive God’s free gift of eternal salvation.”
Almost 66% of Americans said Jesus is God. But in contradiction, some then said that Jesus was simply created by God.
Other beliefs shared by Americans:
66% believe that God answers prayer, versus 94% of evangelicals.
65% agreed that, “everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature,” versus 54% of evangelicals.
Americans don’t seem to agree whether the Bible is literally true:
44% answered, “like all sacred writings, (it) contains helpful accounts of ancient myths but is not literally true.”
45% percent disagreed.
95% of evangelicals indicated that it is, “100 percent accurate in all it teaches.”
44% of Americans seem to agree that science largely discredits Christianity.
40% believe hell is an, “eternal place of judgment where God sends all people who do not personally trust in Jesus Christ,” versus 84% of evangelicals.
Americans don’t seem to agree on abortion, gender or homosexuality:
44% said that the Bible’s condemnation of homosexuality, still applies today, versus 42% that said it no longer does.
38% agreed that it is “a matter of choice,” in terms of gender identity, versus 50% that disagreed.
49% of Americans said that abortion is a sin, versus 40% that said that it is not.
Truly, as Christians, we either believe in God’s Word—in its entirety—or we don’t. We cannot pick and choose what we like and do not like. We cannot choose what we wish to do and turn a blind eye to. God’s Word is either truth or fiction. It cannot be a combination of both.
The world may change, but who are we to say that because it has, certain portions of it can no longer pertain to us, today? In that mind set, are we not making ourselves to play God? Like it or not, God’s Word IS TRUTH, and we will be judged by His Word; should we not strive to live for Him as He asks us to?
If there is something in His Word that you struggle with or are unsure of, then please seek His will for your life through prayer. He will guide you and reward your earnest and heartfelt request.
