Nativity Scenes En-Masse!
The Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist organization bent on ripping the Christmas traditions of many, out of the public square may have finally met its match. After threats of legal action, the city of Wadena Minnesota voted to remove the Forty-Year traditional Nativity Scene set up in the cities park. In response to the decision, residents have joined together and decided to try and break the record for the most Nativity scenes displayed at one time. A Facebook page set up by Dani Swarsky, has allowed residents of the city to show the world their holiday scenes in dedication to the birth of Christ. Sworski states on the page that the world record is 2,500 nativity scenes displayed in one area. So far, 431 have committed, 369 have said they’re interested, and 3,800 more have been invited to join the group. Here are a few of the scenes set up on private properties around the city that were posted on the facebook page:
After the initial threat of legal action by the Atheist group, The American Center for Law and Justice stepped in to help. The Catholic League’s Bill Donohue clarified, “that it is legal to display the scene on private property as long as it is privately paid for and it is a public forum. Dani Swarski encourages anyone in the town that would like to participate to “Shower the town with Nativity scenes, let’s share our faith!”
We agree with that sentiment.
