Grateful For Life
Many things can go through someone’s mind when preparing to enter surgery. What if something goes wrong? What if I don’t wake up? What if the surgery doesn’t work, or they make a mistake? All of which are logical questions to have, especially when you’re a 15-year-old being wheeled into a surgery as invasive and hazardous as heart-transplant surgery.
In this clip, a boy, who has just awoken from the dangerous life or death heart-transplant procedure expresses just how happy he is to still be alive. His reaction is a reminder of how grateful we should feel to be alive as well.
After coming out of the successful surgery the relieved boy breathes a sigh of relief, “I’m so happy, I can breathe again, I can talk.” All things which we tend to take for granted on a daily basis. His father asks him if he feels okay, “I feel amazing,” the boy replies. Surprised by this reaction, the father questions his answer, “You feel amazing?” The boy affirms, “I’ve never felt so good.”
It really is amazing how far medical science has come, and it is very much amazing that we get to be alive during this time in history to experience it all.
