Friday, March 18th, Paris– The manhunt is over as the Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam has reportedly been shot and arrested in the Molenbeek area of Brussels. According to the Belgian police, Abdeslam was injured in the leg before being arrested.

Francois Hollande has earlier stated that there was an operation under way in Brussels that was linked to the Paris attacks, but was unable to confirm whether Abdeslam was injured or arrested. The sound of gunshots and explosions echoed through the Molenbeek area as the situation as underway.

Abdeslam’s fingerprints were found in an a flat in the Forest are of Brussels on Tuesdays. Just as prosecutors confirmed that the fingerprints belonged to Abdeslam, the operation in Molenbeck was underway. Prior to this, Belgian federal prosecutor Eric Van der Sypt stated that they had not established how old the fingerprints that they found were.

The French and Belgian police were met with gunfire from automatic guns on Tuesday when they went to raid the apartment. A police sniper was able to shoot one of the gunmen through the window. According to Thierry Werts, of the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office:
