Bus Driver Risks Her Life In Order To Save School Children From Burning Bus

It was a regular afternoon for Renita Smith, a school bus driver in College Park, Maryland, who had started her route of dropping off kids at their homes after school.

Never did she imagine that that day she was going to be put to the ultimate test.

Smith was on her third stop of the day when she noticed her dashboard brake light turning on, so she pulled over to make a call for a backup bus. She then smelled as if something was burning.

“By the time I got the mic, one of my little ones said, ‘No, Ms. Bus Driver, it’s fire!'” she told WUSA-TV.

Smith automatically went into what she calls “mommy mode.” She jumped out of her seat and started to get all the children off the bus. Having what she thought was most of the children out, she went back in just to check that no kid was left behind. All 20 children were off the bus safe and sound thanks to the quick thinking of their bus driver!
