Deaf Woman Could Not Call Police – She TEXTED Them Instead!

Deaf woman from Alpharetta, Georgia, was walking through a local mall parking lot when she noticed a pair of small children locked inside a vehicle. The only way this woman knew of communication was that through American Sign Language, and writting. An officer found the kids and helped them out of the car, where they had been sitting for almost an hour. Their parents had left their 15-year-old in charge of the young children which may not have been the best idea.

We were an early adopter of this program that is still not widely used.

The person was unable to call 911 but could text vital information for us to act upon.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety posted the text exchange on Facebook to let the Atlanta area that it is indeed possible to text 911 in emergency situations.
