D’IBERVILLE – This weekend one firefighter did all he could to help soothe a child laying on the ground after a crash. The crash involved one vehicle, a Lincoln SUV, on Interstate 10. Several residents, first responders, and one retired Los Angeles firefighter came to the rescue of 6 people who were in the crash.

“I saw five kids ejected,” says retired firefighter Rick Camarena. “I know trauma criteria; I helped them.”
The adult driving and four of the children were then taken to area hospitals but one child was still strapped in a child-restraint seat. D’Iberville firefighter Casey Lessard laid on the ground next to the child playing the animated film “Happy Feet” on his phone.
