A standing ovation was well deserved for the act of respect shown by sophomore Malik Stewart. It came after his loss to Mitchel McKee who had been striving the entire year to win the state championship for his father who was battling cancer. “God help me win this match for my dad, ” he would pray before the start of every match. Hoping he could take the championship home and make his father proud during the difficult time. Stewart aware of the McKee family’s struggle didn’t hesitate to congratulate Mitchel and walk over and embrace Mitchel’s father. A genuine act of sportsmanship and compassion that brought everyone to tears.
