St. Gemma’s Hospice Charity Shop in England recently received an anonymous donation.  The Item? A beautiful ivory lace peplum dress!

The shop was accepting vintage clothing donations in order to help raise money for their hospice.  The money was for their cancer patients and the dress was something that no one expected.

The shop thought that the dress was custom made for the recipient because of the beautiful and intricate details.  One picture that they posted on their Facebook garnered a lot of attention and they tried to find the man who donated the dress!

The dress’ beauty wan’t the part that made it go viral though.  It was the heart breaking note that was attached to it!

“I wish that any LADY WHO TAKES THIS DRESS TO HAVE A LIFE WITH THEIR LOVED ONE, 56 YEARS LIKE I DID, HAPPY YEARS.  I WAS A LUCKY MAN TO MARRY A LADY LIKE MINE.”

St. Gemma’s Spokes person Nicola Woodgate told Buzzfeed News:

“We posted it on our social media channels just to say, “isn’t this lovely” and it went bananas!”

Woodgate later added:

 “When it went into a media frenzy we really wanted to contact the donor to thank him and update him on the amazing response the dress had received”

Because of the high interest in the dress, they decided to sell the dress on eBay where it was over £600 by Thursday night!

And due to the power of social media, the shop announced that they were able to identify and find the man who donated the dress!

They announced that:

“He is over the moon, he is a big fan of St. gemma’s hospice and is overwhelmed with the international attention that his late wife’s dress is generating”

Woodgate later reported that:

He’s 85 and is local to the charity shop and felt ready to part with the dress after all these years.”
