Mom Breaks Stigma Of Daughters Rare Birthmark With Adorable Photoshoot
Charlie Crenshaw is a bubbly ball of joy that is always smiling. The 6-month-old has no awareness that anything about her is different so the idea of her having a rare birthmark called a “capillary hemangioma,” or a “strawberry mark” doesn’t get her spirit down. Her mother Katie Mullis says the only time it comes up is when other people make rude, or inquisitive comments about it. But Katie is now presenting her daughter to the world with these “beautiful Instagram photos in hopes that they will change people’s perceptions of Charlie and others who look a little different.”
Here baby Charlie sports a flower in her hair with the caption of the Instagram post reading: “A day in the 60’s”
Katie told Huffington Post, “I would like to normalize ‘differences’ in appearances,” adding, “People tend to immediately pity people who look different and I would like to change that conversation.”
Whenever possible she likes to chew on unusual, and generally colorful items, the Instagram caption says: “Baby Beautiful Birthmark Mother Love Unconditional Photoshoot”
“Her personality is dynamic,” she said. “Everyone she meets comments on her piercing eyes, or that she seems like an old soul that understands much more than we think. She is extremely motivated and is already crawling and trying to stand.”
“Here’s looking at you”
Katie says, “she received dozens of inspiring emails from parents of kids with hemangiomas and adults who had them as children. ”
Too many toys to choose from in this playroom, Charlies favorite place to relax.
Charlie’s message to all is to have a: “Happy March! We are definitely feeling Springy today. Maybe a visit to the park is in order.”
What a sweet little family. The happiness of this child is truly infectious and brings joy to my heart. Share this with someone you love.
