Doctors Did Their Best To Keep This Person Hidden…
Mui is a unique girl with a unique skin condition. A condition that put her on a different path in life, and that not many other people would understand. It was this trait that is now inspiring everyone around her, but that at first was a curse.
Roger and Tina Thomas were emigrants from Great Britain and Germany that started volunteering at the hospital where they would meet Mui.
The doctors at the hospital were planning to make Mui a permanent resident to a mental institution for the mentally disabled.
The Thomas’ adopted Mui knowing that their lives would never be the same again. Mui needed constant care because of her skin condition, which is both rare and incurable. Most people who see Mui think that she was burned. It has even gotten to the point to where strangers accuse the Thomas’ of child abuse.
“A lady once spat in my wife’s face and accused her of having burnt Mui. But we have always shown her how important it is, to enjoy the world, to use the day. While you never know, what’s waiting just around the corner.”
Mui’s skin condition is ichthyosis graves, it is an extreme case of overgrowth of skin. Her body produces skin cells at an extreme rate, causing her skin to be thick, yet brittle. Her skin often breaks, causing infections and blisters constantly.
Not many people have survived this skin condition. She has outlived most other cases at the age of 22 and from the looks of it, she won’t be giving up anytime soon.
