The Story Behind Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home”
“This Was My Temporary Home- I CAN SEE GOD’S FACE…”
It’s an oldie but goodie! Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home” highlights the various stages of life in which Christians might find themselves most vulnerable to giving up in following God’s righteous path. We first see a young orphaned boy who goes from foster home to foster home trying to find his real home. Next up is a single mother trying to establish herself and her child in a new home. The story behind the last scene is much deeper.
Luke Laird, the songwriter who helped Carrie Underwood write “Temporary Home”, had close ties with the song. At the time of the recording, his grandmother fell ill. Just days after the creation of the song, his grandmother passed away forever engraving meaning into Carrie’s song.
Laird tells USA Today,
“I got a call while I was at the nursing home, ‘Hey, Carrie cut Temporary Home.’ I was excited to get a Carrie cut, but it was weird, because I was losing my grandmother.”- Luke Laird
