HGTV’s “Flip Flop” Host Is Urged To Medically Check A Lump On His Throat – Receives Concerning News
HGTV star Tarek El Moussa survived his thyroid cancer thanks to one attentive fan . Two-and-a-half years ago, the HGTV star was hosting the show “Flip or Flop”, when one attentive fan saw something on Tarek’s throat that compelled him to take action.
Ryan Read, a registered nurse, was watching an episode of the show when she noticed an unusual lump on Tarek’s throat. She then sent the show producer an email that read:
“This is not a joke. I’m a registered nurse. I’ve been watching Flip or Flop. I noticed that the host Tarek has a large nodule on his thyroid, and he needs to have it checked out.”
Tarek reportedly noticed the lump before, but doctors assured him nothing was wrong. Still, the email from Ryan prompted him to get a second opinion.
You may be thinking, if it was something THAT noticeable, wouldn’t have Tarek or someone that knows him told him to seek medical advice before? Well yes thats true. Tarek reportedly noticed the lump before, but doctors assured him nothing was wrong. However, the email was enough to prompt him to seek further medical help.
The ultrasound that was performed on him revealed an ugly truth – the lump was a cancerous malignant type of cancer in his thyroid gland. The real estate expert had to go through a process of radioactive iodine therapy. As a result, he wasn’t allowed near his wife or his five-year-old daughter for more than a few minutes at a time.
After two and a half years, his cancer is finally under control and is now in remission. He often wonders how different his life would have been if that concerned nurse wouldn’t have contacted him about the condition.
“I’ve always been very work, work, work. I stepped back and re-evaluated what I wanted, like spending time with my family and all that good stuff.”
