Benjamin, is mentioned 69 times in Genesis. His mother Rachel dies in childbirth. A famine ravages the land in which him and his family live in. So when their father Jacob sends his sons to Egypt to scout for food, they find their long lost brother Joseph whom they gave up to slavery. Joseph puts the brothers through some odd situations, several specifically pinpointing Benjamin

9. Abimelech

Although his name is mentioned 72 times in Genesis,  you might not even recognize his name.  (Genesis 26:1-33) In order to escape the famine in their homeland, Isaac takes his wife Rebekah and immigrate to the southern region of Gerar, whose king is named Abimelech. The philistines living there fancy Rebekah sexually and out of fear that they might kill him to get his wife, Isaac presents her as his sister. Abimelech finds favor within Isaac and orders the philistine men to leave her alone. He also becomes friends with Isaac and submits to God.

Esau comes up 76 times in Genesis. 

(Genesis 25:25)Esau is the elder twin of Jacob. They were both sons of Isaac and Rebekah. Esau is known for having  sold his birthright to be the next person in line to be the leader of the family. Jacob offered lentil soup to Esau in order for him to give up his birthright. Upon his mother’s plotting, Jacob steals Esau’s blessing and eventually becomes the spiritual leader and inherent of the family.

Isaac was the only son of Abraham’s wife Sarah. His is mentioned 80 times in Genesis. Isaac was used to test the faith of his father Abraham when God asks Abraham to sacrifice him. (Genesis 22:1–18).

Genesis mentions Abraham’s wife 102 times. Sarah was unable to have children with her husband Abraham, so she gave him her Egyptian maid Hagar to bear him children on her behalf.  (Genesis 17:15)

5. Laban

(Genesis 28:5)Laban is Jacob’s uncle, and later in the story he becomes his father-in-law. He is brought up 109 times in Genesis. Laban took Jacob in when he fled in fear that Esau (his older brother) would murder him for his deception. At first, Jacob begins to work for Laban as a servant. He fancies Laban’s daughter Rachel, and agrees to work for Laban for 7 years. However when the wedding day comes, Jacob finds that Laban tricked him, and instead gave him his older daughter Leah. In order to have Rachel, he is forced to work 7 MORE years before he could marry her.

3. Joseph

Joseph’s name comes up 313 times in Genesis.

As the youngest child, Joseph is his father’s favorite which irritates his brothers and makes them extremely jealous.

Joseph’s brothers betray him by selling him into slavery, and lie about it to their father (Gen 37:18–35).

He’s mentioned a total of 706 times. The bible says that he had an encounter with an angel, and he wrestled with it! Afterwards, he gets the new name Israel, which can be translated “he who contends with God”.( Genesis 32:22-32 )
