How Should Christians Treat Orphans?
1. Don’t forget that God takes into special consideration all orphaned children, and that he considers himself their actual Father.
God has proclaimed himself to be the protector and loving Father of all orphans.
“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows, is God in his holy habitation.”- Psalm 68:5
2. God ensures that all orphans will be served justice in it’s due time.
Justice is one of four main characteristics that God embodies. He promises to be protection for those who cannot protect themselves. God urges those who can, to help the kids who have it 10X as harder of a life than we have.
“He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.”-Deuteronomy 10:18 says
3. The People of God will look after orphaned children.
God expects that his People will help meet the needs of orphans. You can help even if its not by physical help! You can start by getting to know an actual orphaned child. Prayer can become so much more meaningful when you know that special face and name of a child who has been impacted by such tragedy.
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”-James 1:27 says
4. The people of God will SHARE what they have with the orphaned children.
God does give special care to orphaned children. In fact, he specifically tells his people to remember orphaned kids when giving.
“And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.”-Deuteronomy 14:29
Be sure that God will never ever leave these kids out of his memory. He does not have a blind eye to the many injustices that these poor kids have had to go through. Indeed he will repay them tenfold when the time is right.
